On November 9-10, 2023, Team eDyNAmiC held its Year 2 Symposium in Long Island City, NY, at Innolabs. Hosted by Work Package 1 Lead, Jef Boeke, and NYU Langone, we met over two days to reflect on progress made to date, share exciting advances and breakthroughs, and make plans for the future. We were joined by over 50 team members, including investigators, trainees, patient advocates, collaborators, and Cancer Grand Challenges staff.
Over two jam-packed days, we heard about new technology development, including modelling ecDNA in mouse and human models; the power of learning from patients and mapping ecDNA during cancer progression; biological insights tracing mechanisms to therapeutics; and we ended the Symposium with a brainstorming, round table session centred on integrating first-in-class chemical probes for ecDNA-relevant proteins-of-interest. The Patient Advocates hosted the panel discussion “Communicating “complicated stuff” to patients, friends and families, or other interested parties” and offered first-hand insight and guidance into how Team eDyNAmiC communicate our science to the public, including structuring our responses to inquiries and the importance of developing and transmitting a key message.
On the evening of November 9, we trekked to Greenwich Village and were treated to an evening of jazz, courtesy of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars, food, and great conversation at the famous Blue Note Jazz Club.
The Symposium concluded on November 10 with a tour of the GenomeFoundry at the Institute for Systems Genetics.
